Annual Report Submitted To The 2026 Membership Meeting

We’re faced with continued new environmental and invasive species challenges.

The arrival of the white pelican is forcing change again in the budget. Over 50 percent of our spending will be on aeration and water temperature management equipment, chemicals and drones for pelican harassment and Sucker mitigation.

Volunteers are needed all summer as we try and provide a sustainable and quality fishing experience. Two awards were established using all anonymously donated funds.

The first, volunteer of the year award had over 100 hours of time and physical efforts setting the bar and were much appreciated.

Second, in a continued effort of creating a catch and release culture for trophy Fish. The released big Fish of the year was a 26-inch close to 10lbs Monster Cut Bow.

The full-size replica will be presented at the upcoming June meeting and hung in the Barn until June 2027 where this year’s trophy will be presented.

Entries require a photo of length and girth of the Fish and a pic of it released if possible.

The Trout Unlimited chart will be used to determine winner.

This contest reinforces the narrative that all fish over 18 inches should be released for sucker mitigation, future spawning, and Trophy Fish experience.

➤ The committee met in March and discussed several items. $3,000 out of trophy fish fund is going to the installation of 2 Grizzlies (fish traps). They will be placed above Lakes 2 and 4.

➤ Another $3,000 is going towards stocking Tiger Trout in Lake 2. This will get us 1,000 at $3 apiece. Last year, they were 3 to 5 inches long. This year, we are hoping to get 7–9-inch fish in May or June of this year.

➤ In 23-24, we stocked roughly 3,300 Brook trout. Hopefully we will see results from that. Patrick (fish vendor) says that the more we stock, the more we should gravitate towards larger fish. We have stocked 1,200 Trophy fish.

➤ Jim Brusak mentioned that he would like us to get as much water as we can in Lake 1 from Mason Creek. Cleaning the creek and removing willows would help increase flow.

➤ The committee plans to do a study on Lake 2 to determine fish content, capacities and how to stock in the future. This includes some tagging of fish to track their movements. The Committee will ask members to release any tagged fish, if possible.

➤ As far as next spring sucker mitigation goes, nets will be placed at “Kirby Flats”, front of spillway, and possibly in the spillway itself in Lake 2. When asked when the best time to show up in the spring, everyone seemed to agree that the last three weeks of May is a good estimate, but they can start running even in April and can continue into June.

➤ The volume of suckers is likely down in Lake 1. We will be lucky to maintain the lower volume of suckers we have now in Lake 2 and the population seems unchecked in Lakes 3,4, and 5. The plan is to stock Lake 1 in the fall which will increase the odds of predation of the sucker population. The Committee would also like to get some cut bows.
